If its coming from Rob or I it will be a win32-specific query for the 
near future.

Which reminds me, did anyone try adding in a bit of ifdef'ing in 
fecmodule.c to call win32file.mmap instead of the built-in Python mmap? 
I know that the mmap in win32file lets you do a few more things that 
are win32 specific (overlapped I/O, etc) but even if those features are 
not being used it might end up being a more stable mmap to use for that 
platform...
